Delineation of Valleys and Valley Floors

چکیده
Methods to automatically derive landforms have typically focused on pixel-based, bottom-up approaches and most commonly on the derivation of topographic eminences. In this paper we describe an object-based, top-down algorithm to identify valley floors. The algorithm is based on a region growing approach, seeded by thalwegs with pixels added to the region according to a threshold gradient value. Since such landforms are fiat we compare the results of our algorithm for a particular valley with a numberof textual sources describing that valley. In a further comparison, we computed a pixel-based six-fold morphometric classification for regions we classified as either being, or not being, valley floor. The regions classified as valley floor are dominated by pla nar slopes and channels, though the algorithm is robust enough to allow local convexities to be classified as within the valley floor. Future work will explore the delineation of valley sides, and thus complete valleys. Delineation of Valleys and Valley Floors Ralph K. Straumann and Ross S. Morphological analysis of glaciated valleys in the Zardkuh Mountains, Iran
The morphology of glacial valley can be described in terms of power law or quadratic equations fitted to valley cross-profiles. These two models are used to study the cross-profiles of 86 valley cross-profiles in the Zardkuh Mountain in order to understand the evolutional patterns of valleys. Assessment of using the power law function indicates that b values for both valley sides range from 1.0...
متن کاملExplaining a Conceptual Model for Sustainable Regeneration of the River Valleys of the City of Tehran (Case study: Darakeh River Valley in Tehran)
The issues of loss of quality of life and functional disruption of the river valleys are very important. In the present settlement system, the river valleys should not be places for reproducing poverty. To link the environmental values with urban development, the research is to answer the following question: How can the results of the integrated development of urban valleys be achieved via urba...

متن کاملFluvial and lacustrine activity on layered deposits in Melas Chasma, Valles Marineris, Mars
[i] Valley networks on Mars are the most obvious features attesting that different geologic processes and possibly climatic conditions existed in the past. THEMIS images reveal valley networks within Melas Chasma, in Valles Marineris, a Hesperian-age canyon system. The valley networks in Melas Chasma are dense and highly organized, and the heads of the valleys are scattered at different elevati...
